Alison Fernald, RD, LD

Alison has been a dietitian/nutritionist for more than 20 years. She graduated from the University of Maine at Orono and did her clinical internship at Lahey Clinic in Massachusetts. She has a strong interest in preventing chronic disease and loves working with people. Alison helps people focus on self-care behaviors and food choices that are essential for improving health and quality of life. She is especially interested in working with diabetics and overweight children. Helping people understand the sometimes complicated nutritional advice that surrounds us is her passion. Alison counsels those with chronic health issues such as cancer, kidney disease, eating disorders, and heart and pulmonary disease. More recently, she has worked with athletes to achieve optimal sports performance through nutrition.

Carol Freshley, RN, BSN, CDE

Carol has more than 20 years experience in nursing with 15 years experience in diabetes education. In 2003, she earned the Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE) credential. Carol enjoys helping people to improve their health and incorporate healthy lifestyle choices into their diabetes self-management. She has a strong interest in disease prevention and health promotion. Optimum diabetes management incorporates lifestyle changes that not only lower the risk of diabetes complications, but also improve a person's blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and lower the risk of developing other chronic diseases. Carol's goal is to help prevent the long-term complications from diabetes and to improve patients' quality of life. With degrees in both psychology and nursing, she combines knowledge and skills from both psychology and medicine to help people successfully manage their diabetes.
